Solar Panel Installation in Coimbatore

Coimbatore records the strongest sunlight of any district we work in — about 5.8 peak sun hours a day, which translates to roughly 4.38 units per kW. The difference against the eastern districts is small per panel but compounds over twenty-five years, and it is one reason payback periods quoted for Coimbatore tend to be shorter than the state average. The city also has the densest concentration of small and medium engineering units in Tamil Nadu, which shapes almost every conversation we have here.

Yield figures are regional averages from published irradiance data, quoted as indicative ranges. What a particular roof produces depends on its orientation, shading and the equipment specified — which is what the site survey establishes.

What we install in Coimbatore, and for whom

Coimbatore makes the machines other districts use. The pump and motor cluster — the reason the city is called the pump capital of India — runs machining centres, induction furnaces and test beds whose demand is relentless through the working day. Textile machinery, foundries and wet-grinder manufacturing add to the same daytime profile. For these units the attraction is not export income but tariff avoidance: a correctly sized array feeds the shop floor directly, and because consumption rarely drops below generation during working hours, almost nothing leaves the premises. The city also has a large professional and IT workforce whose homes are increasingly on three-phase supply, which changes residential sizing.

Roofs in Coimbatore

Engineering sheds in Coimbatore are typically steel truss with galvanised sheet, often built in phases, so adjacent bays can differ in purlin spacing and age — one survey per bay, not one per site. Foundry roofs carry heat and particulate from the melt area that argues for keeping the array off that section entirely. In the city proper, flat RCC on two and three-storey buildings dominates, usually with water tanks, stair heads and lift rooms that cast long winter shadows; shade mapping matters more here than in a low-rise town, and we model it rather than estimate it.

A 3 kW system here

At Coimbatore’s average yield, a 3 kW rooftop system — the size the PM Surya Ghar subsidy caps at — generates roughly 13.1 units on an average day and about 4,800 units a year. Residential rooftops of 3 kW and above qualify for the central subsidy of up to ₹78,000, subject to eligibility under the scheme, and Tamil Nadu announced a further top-up in September 2026 — our solar subsidy guide sets out what each one pays and how firm the state figure is.

Net metering is handled through Coimbatore North and Coimbatore South distribution circles. We prepare and file that application as part of the installation; sanction typically takes 60 to 120 days from submission. Our net metering guide explains which arrangement you would be on and why it decides the size worth installing.

Questions people in Coimbatore ask

Is Coimbatore genuinely better for solar than other districts?

Slightly, and measurably. About 5.8 peak sun hours a day against 5.5 to 5.6 further east gives roughly 4.38 units per kW against 4.23 to 4.33. On a 5 kW system that is a few hundred units a year — not transformative, but real, and it is in your favour.

We run a machining unit. How much roof do we need?

Roughly 70 to 80 square feet of unshaded roof per kW with current panels. The more useful question is usually the reverse: what your daytime load is, and whether the roof can cover a worthwhile share of it. A survey measures both, and we would rather tell you the roof is too small than sell you an array that exports at the low rate.

Do foundry fumes damage panels?

Particulate settles and reduces output, and in some cases the deposits are harder to clean than ordinary dust. The practical answer is to keep the array away from the melt and pouring bays and to plan a realistic cleaning interval. It is a layout question, which is exactly what a site visit is for.

Coimbatore is 105 km from your base. Does service suffer?

It is a longer trip than Salem, so a survey is scheduled rather than same-day. For installation and any later service call the distance makes no practical difference; it affects how quickly we can get there for the first visit, not what happens afterwards.

VENAARC installs across Coimbatore district from our base in Sankagiri. Listing an area means we travel there and work there — it is not a claim that a plant has been built in every town named on this site.
